Oworonshoki Demolitions: Lagos police deploy officers over planned protest on Third Mainland Bridge
Lagos Police have deployed security to the Third Mainland Bridge due to planned youth protests in Oworonshoki, assuring residents of safety and traffic flow. However, human rights lawyer Femi Falana accuses the Lagos State Government of violating a court order restraining demolitions in Oworonshoki, alleging that armed security personnel dispersed protesters and continued demolitions despite the order. Residents corroborate the ongoing demolitions and use of teargas, while the Police deny attacking residents, stating their presence was to maintain order during lawful urban development by state agencies following due process and compensation arrangements. Residents and the Coalition of Oworonshoki Demolition Victims rejected compensation, describing it as “selective,” claiming only a small fraction of affected residents were included.
