Abure’s Faction Kicks As INEC Excludes Labour Party From By-election
The Labour Party is protesting the exclusion of its nominated candidates in the upcoming bye-elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to the party, INEC's decision is unlawful, surprising, and an abuse of power, citing the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Acts 2022. The party argues that INEC lacks the power to stop it from sponsoring candidates or cherry-pick elections where it deems fit for the party to field candidates. The party also claims that the Supreme Court judgment in April 2025 did not derecognize the present leadership of the Labour Party and did not empower INEC to interfere with the party's internal matters. The party is calling on INEC to enlist its duly nominated candidates
