Court Orders UBA To Pay Ex-Deputy Gov Achuba ₦1.07 Billion
The National Industrial Court ordered UBA Plc to pay former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, ₦1.07 billion to satisfy a judgment debt owed by the Kogi State Government. The court dismissed UBA's objection that the funds in the Kogi State ACRESAL IDA Designated Account were World Bank-supported and untouchable, citing a lack of credible evidence. UBA was directed to pay the outstanding debt, along with costs awarded by the Court of Appeal and for the garnishee proceedings, directly into Achuba's account. Other banks initially involved were discharged. The court also criticized Kogi State Government’s counsel, Paul Daudu, for unprofessional conduct and awarded ₦1 million against him personally, marking a victory for Achuba in his legal battle.
