Court Halts Burial Of Abia Monarch, Orders Autopsy Over Disputed Circumstances

An Abia State magistrate court halted the burial of HRH Professor Sam Ajiri, the late traditional ruler of Ntalakwu Oboro, ordering a compulsory autopsy. The order followed a motion by the monarch’s first son, Dike Ajiri, and others against the monarch’s widow, Mrs. Chinwe Ajiri, and Ashes to Ashes Funerals, alleging that she planned the burial without family consent and questioning the cause and date of his death. The court restrained Mrs. Ajiri from burying the monarch and the funeral home from releasing the body without consent from the first son, cabinet members, and kinsmen. The police were directed to retain custody of the mortuary tally for the court-ordered autopsy, conducted by a government-approved team.
