Wike-Backed Faction Drags INEC To Court, Seeks Nullification Of Ibadan Convention
A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the party's recent national convention held in Ibadan. The suit, filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja, argues that the convention, which elected national officers and resulted in expulsions, violated existing court orders. The plaintiffs, including the Acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, allege that the convention was conducted despite court rulings nullifying the 21-day notice. They are seeking a court order to prevent INEC and security agencies from recognizing the convention or any of its outcomes, and to compel security agencies to provide protection and access to the PDP's headquarters in Abuja. The plaintiffs claim a rival faction attempted to seize control of the party secretariat, prompting the police and DSS to seal off the premises.
