States’ role in deepening broadband access
Nigeria's broadband penetration heavily relies on state government actions. The NCC is urging states to adopt uniform, pro-investment policies by reducing Right of Way (RoW) charges to N145/linear meter or waiving them entirely. 11 states have fully waived the charges and 17 others have aligned with the N145 benchmark. The NCC is also addressing Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) vandalism and theft. To promote accountability and investment, the NCC will launch a Digital Connectivity Index, ranking states on broadband readiness. Ultimately, state policy alignment is crucial for attracting investment and expanding broadband access, which can significantly boost Nigeria's GDP and achieve its digital economy goals.
