Okiro, the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PCC), shared that his team frequently faced opposition from the police, stating that they were consistently thwarted in their efforts to carry out their perceived duties.
Often then, we had an encounter with the police, and I did not like the police at all because they were always preventing us from doing what we thought was right to do.
In a recent interview to celebrate his 75th birthday, Okiro, the 13th IGP, mentioned that his entry into the police force was seen as a stroke of luck.
Okiro explained that his disdain for the police grew as he engaged in activism as a student at the University of Ibadan (UI), where he was an undergraduate.
When I became a student in university, one of the people I hated the most was the police.
