Garba Shehu, former spokesperson for President Buhari, recounted instances highlighting Buhari's rejection of luxury gifts during an interview. He detailed how Buhari refused a diamond-encrusted wristwatch from a Nigerian designer and a private aircraft offered by the Emir of Abu Dhabi, deeming them inappropriate for personal use. Buhari insisted on accepting only gifts benefitting the country. Shehu emphasized that these actions reflected Buhari's commitment to integrity and aversion to personal enrichment. Shehu, whose appearance coincides with the release of his memoir “According to the President”, portrayed Buhari as a leader who "lived integrity," ensuring his tenure was free from corruption scandals. The news comes after Buhari's death on July 13, 2025.
