‘North cannot afford to lose another generation’ – Northern governors warn
Northern Nigerian governors have declared early childhood development (ECD) their top priority, recognizing the "first 2,000 days" of a child's life as crucial for the region's future. Meeting with the World Bank, they endorsed a coordinated investment plan to improve nutrition, healthcare, early learning, and family support. The governors acknowledged that neglecting ECD will perpetuate poverty and low learning outcomes, hindering long-term stability and productivity. They emphasized the need for a unified, state-driven delivery system and committed to aligning policies and budgets with the ECD agenda. With support from the World Bank in the form of financing and technical assistance, the governors see this as an opportunity to address their current challenges and create brighter future for the next generation.
