DR Congo Promises $1 Million Bonus To Players Ahead Of 2026 FIFA World Cup Playoffs
The Democratic Republic of Congo is offering each of its national football team players $1 million if they qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup intercontinental play-offs. This incentive, approved by the Congolese government under President Félix Tshisekedi, aims to motivate the Leopards in their upcoming African play-off matches, starting with Cameroon on November 13. The bonus is exclusive to players, not the coaching staff, and will be paid directly via Rawbank if qualification is secured by November 16. The DR Congo hopes this will propel them to their first World Cup appearance since 1974. The winner of the African play-offs, involving DR Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Gabon, will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026.
