Nigeria, Brazil sign MoU to boost local drug manufacturing
Nigeria and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost local pharmaceutical manufacturing in Nigeria and foster industrial cooperation. The agreement, involving the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), EMS Brazil, and Oaks Medical Limited, aims to reduce Nigeria's import dependency and achieve 70% local drug production by 2030. The collaboration prioritizes technology transfer, capacity building, infrastructure upgrades, and strengthened regulatory systems. It builds on recent high-level discussions between the two countries' presidents, with a focus on pharmaceutical development and vaccine production. The initiative aims to expand the life sciences workforce, create jobs, and strengthen Nigeria's healthcare security. The Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) will implement the MoU, addressing bottlenecks across the healthcare value chain.
