Benue politics thickens as governor, deputy deny separate removal plots
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has denied any involvement in the failed impeachment attempt of Speaker Aondona Dajoh. The House subsequently suspended four members for their roles in the plot. Governor Alia reaffirmed his respect for the rule of law and the Assembly, emphasizing his cordial relationship with the Speaker. In a separate development, Deputy Governor Sam Ode dismissed rumors suggesting he would be replaced ahead of the 2027 elections. He described the claims as baseless, assuring the public of his continued strong working relationship with Governor Alia. Ode also urged respect for traditional institutions, warning against involving the Idoma traditional ruler in political matters, and advised residents to participate in the voter registration exercise.
