Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu cuts train fare to mark project anniversary
To celebrate the second anniversary of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a 50% fare reduction effective Thursday. The Blue Line has safely transported over five million passengers without accidents, with trains running every ten minutes. This fare cut aims to encourage greater ridership. The governor also highlighted the recent addition of new coaches, purchased with federal support, to expand capacity and reduce travel times. These improvements aim to have trains arriving every 10 minutes during peak hours. Further expansions are underway, including the ongoing construction of the Blue Line's second phase and upcoming larger trains for the Red Line. In August, LAMATA increased daily trips and offered a 25% off-peak fare discount, further improving efficiency and affordability.
